Calabar Athletic Championships Set to Witness a Stellar Line Up of African Athletes.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria has unveiled a stellar line up of African athletes for the 2013 edition of the Cross River State-sponsored All Nigeria Athletics Championship.

Headlining the pack for the competition slated for next week’s Wednesday in Calabar is Olympic bronze medalist Blessing Okagbare, who won gold at the biennial African tourney last year in Porto Novo, Benin Republic.

The senior sprinter will be hoping to make history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to win the 100 meter gold five times consecutively.

Gloria Asumnu will be competing in her third national championship following a change in allegiance from USA, her country of birth, to Nigeria, her origin.

400 meter barrier runner Muizat Odumosu will hope to successfuly defend her title at the championship, while two-time triple jump African champion Tosin Oke also features at the event.

Okoro Chinwe, who won two gold medals at the last African championships in field events, will also take part at the Calabar championship.

The championship is part of AFN national trials which will be used for the selection of athletes for the 14th IAAF World Championships this August in Moscow, Russia.
