Africa’s representatives to the 9th Stankovic Continental Champions Cup, D’Tigers, lost their third match in quick succession this afternoon in Lanzhou, China.
Nigeria‘s senior men’s basketball team lost to South American champions Argentina 54-74 to remain bottom of the table with three points.
The victory was Argentina’s second straight win at the basketball tourney, setting up a 2-1 record, second on five points pending the result of the match between China and Germany.
Both team stayed close throughout the first half. Argentina eked out a 14-13 lead after ten minutes of action. Nigeria erased the deficit in the second frame.
The African powerhouse tied things up at 31-all after twenty minutes of action. Argentina regained control in the third term. The Latin American team limited Nigeria to 14 points in the period and surged ahead for a 53-45 advantage.
Argentina outgunned their opponents 18-9 in the fourth quarter and secured the win at the end.
Adrian Boccia (195-G/F-82) stepped up with 14 points for the winners. Juan Gutierrez (205-F/C-83) accounted for 13 points, while Selem Safar (190-SG-87) and Marcos Delia (206-C-92) added 7 points each for the winners.
Stan Okoye (198-F-91, agency: Interperformances) and Abubakar Usman (192-G-86) responded with 15 points each for Nigeria.
