3 Ways To Trick Yourself Into Working Out On Vacation

Vacation

Vacations are the hardest time to stick with a fitness routine. While lounging on the beach with a good book in one hand and a piña colada in the other, the last thing you want to do is think about your evening run. Instead of pressuring yourself to get in every workout on your time off, get active in other ways — it still counts!

Schedule “Me” Time
Vacation can be the hardest time to schedule in some alone time. Whether you’re at a family reunion or on a romantic getaway, you’ll find you need a little time to get away and clear your mind. A quick run in the morning or trip to the hotel gym can be just enough time to step out. Word of advice: schedule your workout for the morning, not in the middle of Grandpa’s epic tales of Vietnam. The trick is to get away without looking like you needed to.

Be An Active Tourist
There’s no better way to sightsee than on foot. When traveling to a new city, skip the public transportation and map out touristy destinations you can reach by foot. Or rent bicycles and explore the city on wheels — many tourist towns rent out bikes for an affordable price. In the past, people ran and walked to get somewhere, not to clock mileage and burn calories. It’s a great mentality to use when trying to stay active.

Try Something New
Be adventurous. If you’re spending the week at the beach, take surfing lessons or try paddle boarding. Both have a huge following because they’re a full body workout — and fun to boot. Visiting family in Vermont? Go hiking. The views on top of the Green Mountains are extraordinary.
