Sylva Seeks Court’s Leave To Accompany Wife On Medical Treatment Abroad

Sylva3_462273906Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr Timipre Sylva, who is standing trial for alleged money laundering offences before an Abuja Federal High Court, has filed an application seeking leave to accompany his wife on a medical trip abroad.

Sylva, in his application filed on May 16,  said his wife has been scheduled for surgery in a United Kingdom hospital and requested the court to release his international passport to enable him embark on the trip.

He, however, promised to return the passport to the custody of the court as well as return to the country in continuation of his trial.

But in opposing Sylva’s application, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), prayed the court to refuse the former Governor’s application on the ground that he might not return to face his charges.

Hearing on the application which was scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, was adjourned till May 28 following the objection by prosecuting counsel – John Anietor.
