Suspended Rivers Lawmakers seek Court’s Shield

Court of lawThe 26 members of the Rivers House of Assembly, including the Speaker Otelemaba Amachree, who were yesterday suspended by the disputed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State have secured a court order restraining the Party from suspending them or declaring their seat vacant.

In an Order of Interim Injunction granted by Justice S.H. Aprioku, Judge of State High Court in Port Harcourt is restraining the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, its agents and privies pending the determination of the motion on notice .

In an affidavit  by Chidi Lloyd, the Leader of House, the Lawmakers have also secured the court order restraining the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, from conducting elections to replace them as members of the Rivers House of House Assembly.

It would be recalled that Felix Obuah-led Executive yesterday suspended the Lawmakers for insubordination and also gave the Governor Chibuike Amaechi 48 hours to explain to Rivers People the real owner of Bombardier Jet or face disciplinary action.
