Adel Amrouche, head coach of Kenya’s national team is worried over his team preparation for the crucial June 5 World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles.

Some club coaches have refused to release their players for training and since Kenya has not played any friendly since the 1-1 draw against Eagles in Calabar, the coach fears the worst.

“Harambee Stars have a very tough task ahead of them and we all want to see them succeed. We should therefore work together toward realising that objective because this team belongs to Kenyans,” Amrouche of Algerian descent said.

“Since we played against Nigeria, we have not had a single friendly match and we need to work with players for a few hours each week in order to gauge our preparedness.” he lamented.

Kenya had lined up a friendly match against the Black Stars of Ghana on May 29, but the Ghanaians pulled out due to the changes in FIFA’s date for World Cup qualifiers, citing the inability of Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah to raise a team for the match as the underlying factor.

Amrouche also revealed his frustration on the interference by Kenya football officials in the selection of his team.

“I am in charge of the national team and as such, I have the last word on who gets called up and who does not. When I call up any player- foreign or home based- I do that by confirming through an email signed by me and my two assistants, James Nandwa and Ken Odhiambo,” Amrouche said.
