Fake Cop: Guy Allegedly Impersonates Deputy For Months To Impress Girlfriend

This guy is not a deputy.
This guy is not a deputy.

Women love a man in uniform — but not one the guy has stolen from his sister’s boyfriend as part of an elaborate hoax.

Florida resident Christopher Sharp, 37, allegedly pretended to be a Pasco County Sheriff’s deputy for six months in order to impress his live-in (now ex) girlfriend, the Sun Sentinel reported.

In reality, Sharp was working at a local Pizza Hut. He had pilfered a deputy uniform from his sister’s boyfriend, according to a news release written by actual (we think) deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

From the news release:

Sharp would come home “from work” wearing his Pasco County Sheriff’s Office uniform, telling stories to Randi [his girlfriend], her family, and and friends about what had occurred during his “shift.” He even went so far as to provide legal advice to people regarding child custody matters, avoiding a DUI arrest, and traffic citations.

The alleged scam began to unravel at a New Year’s party on Jan. 1, when, witnesses say, Sharp showed up in his stolen uniform and started regaling guests with tales of enforcing DUI statutes. Apparently someone at the party found this difficult to believe, and a subsequent investigation proved that Sharp was indeed a civilian.

Sharp allegedly told investigators that he had concocted the scheme to impress his girlfriend, and that he never actually attempted to enforce laws or pull anyone over.

Nevertheless, he was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and taken into custody on $2,000 bond.

Sharp had once applied for a job with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office but was turned down, according to the press release.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis is quoted in the release as calling Sharo “a shining example of someone who makes extremely poor decisions.”
