Akpabio, Leads Angry Govs Against Amaechi, Says NGF Poll Was Rigged

Godswill-AkpabioSome of the governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, one each from Labour Party, LP and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, have rejected Friday’s election which produced Mr Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF.

The disgruntled Governors who converged on the Akwa-Ibom Governor’s Lodge, declared the election as a sham.

Led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Obong Godswill Akpabio, the Governors stated that Amaechi stage-managed the election after he had refused to dissolve the former executive and personally conducted the election he claimed to have won.

Akpabio, who reversed the votes in favour of the party’s anointed choice – Jonah David Jang of Plateau State, revealed that Amaechi could not have won the election as Jang had secured 19 votes through his colleagues who had earlier in the day endorsed his candidature via their signatures gathered at the PDPGF meeting and the Northern Governors Forum meetings.

According to Akpabio,  who was flanked by governors Jonah Jang, Isa Yuguda of Bauchi, Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko and Peter Obi of Anambra State, the election at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge was against the dictates of democratic norms, adding that 19 governors who had earlier endorsed Jang recognised him as the authentic Chairman of NGF.

In a statement released to back up their assertion, the 19 members of the forum noted that they strongly agreed that Amaechi should go and thanked him for his services so far even as they affirmed Jang as the new chairman.

Those who signed the statement included the Governors of Akwa Ibom, Gombe, Bayelsa, Taraba, Benue, Anambra, Kogi, Ondo, Plateau, Kaduna, Enugu, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Delta, Abia, Katsina, Yobe, Cross River and Kwara states respectively.

  1. When I heard the purported news first that Ameachi won I laughed because I knew it was a lie & nonsense, how can he claimed to have won when he didn’t win.let him stop parading himself as chairman & recognise Jonah Jang as the newly elected Chairman of NGF .

    • Donjeff, listen to yourself. Did Amaechi announce himself the winner? Wasn’t the announcement made by the returning officer in the election? If Akpabio claims the election was not fair, are there no better ways to challenge it? When Goodluck was announced winner in 2011 election did Buhari constitute himself as president just like Akpabio has done. Buhari decided to challenge result legitimately. Let Akpabio do same. Am highly disappointed in him and those like you who think he as done well.

  2. I think Jonah Jang is not sensitive to the problems back home in his state, if he his committed to solving the miriads of problems in his state he won’t allow himself to be burdened by Jonathan and his visionless team.

  3. Politics is about vested interest. The earlier we learn to tolerate one another ‘s veiws the better our society develops meaningfully. It is a pity that govs Akpabio and his cohorts have shown enough irresponsibility and undemocratic attitude towards gov Amechi ‘s political ambition,to which he is constitutionally entitled to;instead of concentrating on how to create jobs for the teaming population. They should know that the polity has been heated beyond pressure and may likely burst open.In any case revolution is imminent.
