Again, Crisis Erupts In Wukari… Situation Under Control – Police

TarabaBarely 24 hours after the Taraba State Government inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Wukari and Ibi crises, another round of violence erupted Friday in Wukari.

Information Nigeria gathered that the incident was sparked off by a misunderstanding that ensued during a procession at the burial rites of a third class chief who died in the area recently.

According to a resident of the town who spoke on phone, some touts took advantage of the burial procession of a Jukun traditional title holder to unleash mayhem.

He said some residents fled their homes to the bush and nearby barracks for safety, adding that gunshots rented the air earlier in the day before the arrival of security agents in the area to restore order.

It was not clear the extent of destructions and casualties recorded as at the time of filing this report but the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Joseph Kwaji while confirming the incident, said there was no casualty.

He added that a detachment of policemen from the State Command and other neighbouring divisions were promptly deployed to the town, stressing that law and order has been restored.
