Oscar Pistorius’ will stay away from the track for the rest of the year so he can focus on his court case.
The ‘Blade Runner,’ who was accused of premeditated murder after the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, was believed to be back in training again in South Africa.
Steenkamp was shot dead on Valentine’s Day at Pistorius’ Pretoria home. He was released on bail in February and will be back in court on June 4. He is likely to stand trial before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the Paralympian’s coach Ampie Louw revealed Pistorius has turned down invitations to take part in major international athletic events and will not return to the track for the rest of the year.
“We have decided as a team we are not talking (about) any training or athletics.
“We have postponed (races) for the rest of the year.”
The coach said the 23- year- old six- time Paralympics gold medalist was not psychologically ready to take part in any events.
“He is nowhere close to being in a position to train. He just does fitness exercises in the morning with his family.”
Pistorius’ agent Peet van Zyl added: “There was never any pressure from me or his coach to return to competition, it’s his decision and it’s his decision not to compete.”
It means the South African will not compete in the IPC World Championships in Lyon in July.
