Men of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos on Wednesday arrested a man identified as Mr Atunde for allegedly molesting two minors at his orphanage, Light of Hope Orphanage, Akute, Ogun State.

A non-governmental organisation, Project Alert had petitioned the Zone 2 Police Command who acted promptly and began investigating Atunde, reported to be a pastor. The petition was said to be prompted by a teacher of the school which the minors attended.

One of the minors allegedly showed up at school one day in March, with blood dripping down her legs.

The school officials who questioned the minor were told by her that Atunde had had carnal knowledge of her.

“It was the school that brought the case to us. This is not the first time that we have received complaints against Tunde’s activities,” Project Alert programme officer, Tobi Asekun, said.

“Last year, one of his neighbours came to us making the same complaints but no one could take action because we needed his victims to confirm the claim.

“So when this case was brought to our attention, we wrote a petition to Zone 2 command,”

Officers in mufti from Zone 2, it was learnt had visited the school and spoken with the minors aged 13 and 14 years before picking up Atunde from the orphanage which also serves as his family home.

The large one-storey building orphanage with about 12 rooms was said to have been functioning since 1996, and now has 22 children, most of whom were male and female minors.

11 other orphans were said to be running various programmes in a private University with their expenses being paid by the orphanage.

The orphanage, which is registered with the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs allegedly caters for 79 children.

Confirming Atunde’s arrest, Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Balogun, said, “Atunde has been arrested. We will have more details by tomorrow.”
