Elder Statesmen Want Boko Haram Leaders Identified Before Amnesty

Boko-Haram-members-360x225group of Nigeria’s elderstatesmen from the minority ethnic groups across the country, on Thursday, urged the Northern leaders to bring the leaders of the Boko Haram sect from their hiding places to dialogue with the government of Nigeria in order to facilitate the granting of amnesty to the group.

The group, on the aegis of Congress for Equality and Change (CEC), equally canvassed that the sponsors of acts of terrorism through which more than 7,000 innocent Nigerians had been killed had to be identified for the amnesty proposal for members of the Islamic militant groups to be properly sealed.

According to the CEC, led by Pa Edwin Clark and the former Senate President, Ameh Ebute, insisted that the issue of granting of amnesty could never be done in the realm of speculation and ambiguity, stating that those who crave for amnesty must show face and state their acceptance of the deal for obvious reasons.

The group said the northern leaders would have the full support of all Nigerians on amnesty to the Boko Haram group in the event of their ability to convince the rest of Nigerians that after amnesty to the insurgent groups, no other group would rise up to lay claims to amnesty, thereby plunging the government into more confusion.
