The 62- year- old’s contract was due to expire next summer and the Spanish Football Federation were believed to be interested in extending his contract, after helping the team- who were under- achievers before his arrival- achieve their present fit.
“My final responsibility as coach of Spain will be at the World Cup in Brazil,” he told Argentine news outlet Telam.
“Then maybe I can stay tied to Spanish Football Federation in roles of representation, like now, travelling all over for requests from public welfare agencies.”
Del Bosque took over from Luis Aragones in July 2008, and has helped Spain win the World Cup and two successive European Cups. He also set a world record of winning his opening 13 matches in charge of a national team. When asked about Spain’s current playing philosophy and the similarities with that of Barcelona FC, he said:
“There is an identity, more than that of Barcelona, because the team has the balance that the players from Real Madrid provide,” he added.
On the recent defeats to two La Liga rivals, Barca and Real, “The Germans have learnt of the traditional power of possession, which is what you see now with Bayern and Borussia, and it makes their national team a great candidate to win the next World Cup,” he said.
“Cycles are fulfilled and football is evened out worldwide. That is why Finland made things complicated for us (in March’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw).”
