sentence

A 40-year-old man, Raifu Olatiloye, was yesterday sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine, by an Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, for producing and possessing 20 fake number plates.

Olatiloye was said to have been arrested by law enforcement arm of the state Internal Revenue Service, IRS, last August in Sagamu after a motorcycle rider who claimed to have bought fake number plates from him was arrested.

The accused was charged to court by operatives of IRS for being in possession of 20 different number plates which he manufactured illegally, the offence the operatives said contravened sections 465 and 467 of the State Criminal Code law 2006. He pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.

Magistrate Victoria Williams in her judgement said she found Olatiloye guilty of the charge and therefore sentenced him to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.

Chairman of the state Internal Revenue Service, Babajide Odubanjo, in his reaction after the judgemant was passed, described it as a welcome development and a plus for his advocacy against forgery and faking of revenue documents and number plates.
