The ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)-led administration in Oyo state has been criticized by a chieftain of the Accord Party in the State, Honourable Bimbo Adepoju.

Honourable Adepoju condemned what he described as the politicisation of the whole process. He also alleged that the state government has issued a directive to a section of the state civil servants compelling them, as well as beneficiaries of the Youth Empowerment Scheme of Oyo State (YES-O), to register as ACN members in their respective local government councils.

A release by Alhaji Lanre Latinwo, head of Accord Media Team, on Sunday, stated that Honourable Adepoju raised the alarm over the developments in an address at an Accord stakeholders meeting in Ibarapa zone, at the weekend. The Accord Party chieftain expressed displeasure over a condition that applicants for teaching job must produce ACN membership card before their applications would be considered or such applications would be thrashed.

The release quoted Adepoju as having said that, “Oyo State government has directed the caretaker committee chairmen in all the 33 local governments to compel YES-O members to register and obtain ACN membership cards as a criterion to demonstrate their loyalty and for government to further guarantee their retainership in the scheme.”
