Jonathan Orders Release Of N20m To Nasarawa State Varsity For Provision Of Boreholes

12858Following the student crisis that reportedly resulted in the death of about four students, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the release of N20 million to Nasarawa State University, Keffi for the provision of boreholes to solve the perennial water scarcity on campus.

Senior Special Assistant on Youth & Students Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Jude Imagwe, announced this Friday in Abuja when he received a protest letter from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) over the alleged killing of students by soldiers during a peaceful protest over scarcity of water in their campus last Monday.

Extolling Jonathan’s virtues as a humane leader, Imagwe said President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the Federal Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission (NUC) to ensure the immediate release of N20 million for the provision of boreholes in the campus of the university owned by the Nasarawa State government.

On NANS’ threat that the President set up a panel of enquiry within 21 days to identify and bring to book perpetrators of the dastardly act or face a nationwide protest, Mr Imagwe said, “Be rest assured that the President would be committed to ensuring that those that are responsible for the dastardly and barbaric act will be brought to book”.

  1. This issue is really beyond 20 million. The relevant issues are gradually being pushed aside. For eg.,what really caused the water shortage? What really informed the soldiers’ presence?Where was the VC the whole while? What is being done for students’ welfare in the meantime? What has the school authority planned,to remember those who died?Who,really,is going to answer for this crime? Is this school authority really worthy of its designation?

  2. in all fairness, i think the vc needs to be asked some questions, along side the army personels on ground, how come they are publicly denying that they were not involved? Picturial evidience are present to prove other wise, what ever hapend to hot water hoses and rubber bullets or whips or when the worse should have being done, what hapned to aresting the protesters? I was a witnes to what happend on that faithful monday morning when an army man turned and sprayed bullets at students. Tear gas was thrown at d students. We are students, future of tomorow, not animals or militants or the infamous boko-haram sects that we should be shot at. I am apealing to the office of the presidency to look into the matter and bring to book the men behind these killings. And also to facilitate the re-opening of the school. I am a student of nassarawa state university keffi and i rest my case… Signd, By Eze
