Group Writes President Jonathan to Look into Alleged Cases of Corruption in NDDC

jonathan_goodluck3-300x225A pressure group, the Niger Delta Peace and Development Movement (NDPDM), in an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, has advised him to appoint a judicial commission of inquiry into various allegations of sharp practices in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The group also demanded the dissolution of the Isaac Jemide-led NDDC Presidential Monitoring Committee for incompetence and expiration of its term. The letter signed by its President, Okon Effiong, and General Secretary, Oghenetega Okoro, also advised the president to drop the Isaac Jemide committee report for not serving the interest of the region’s stakeholders, asking that a new presidential committee be constituted.

The NDPDM frowned at the failure of the presidential committee to point personalities it accused of involvement in the alleged shoddy practices in the commission, adding that the report must have been compiled to demonise all the personalities who served in the commission’s council from 2005 to 2011.

Their letter reads in part: “We find it curious that a monitoring committee that is supposed to provide executive oversight over the affairs of the NDDC on behalf of Mr President could only submit a report for three out of nine states covered by the commission almost two years after the third governing board, headed by Air Vice Marshall Larry Koinyan was dissolved.”
