JTF Kills One, Arrests Another In Connection With Slain Kano Mopol Commander

MopolA member of the insurgent group that shot and killed the Mobile Police Force commander in Kano state has himself been shot dead by officers of the Joint Task Force (JTF).

The security outfit also arrested another member of the group even as the service pistol of the slain officer had been found on the suspects.

It would be recalled that gunmen had on Monday night ambushed the commander of Police Mobile Force squadron 9 in Kano, SP Dahiru Ibrahim Majia, and shot him dead in front of his residence at Layin Transformer in Sabuwar Gandu suburb of Kano.

The attackers reportedly dispossessed the officer of his service pistol after they killed him however luck ran out on the suspects when a vehicle carrying them was intercepted by a JTF checkpoint on a highway leading to a neighbouring state on Wednesday afternoon, following which a search uncovered the pistol.

It was in a frantic bid to escape that one of the occupants of the said vehicle was gunned down by security forces manning the post.

Meanwhile the other arrested suspect is undergoing interrogation with a view to gathering useful information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the insurgents’ team.
