Edo State Lawmaker Kidnapped by “Unknown Gunmen”

police_logo_67An Edo State lawmaker, representing Esan Central Local Government Area of the state, Mr Victor Edoror, has been abducted by unknown gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers. The lawmaker was said to have been abducted while on his way to a meeting in his constituency.

As a result of this development, the Edo Sate House of Assembly had to suspend its sitting that would have ordinarily held on Monday. Meanwhile, confirming the incident in Benin, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Uyi Igbe said Edoror was kidnapped in Irrua, the administrative headquarters of Esan council on Sunday in company of his driver.

The lawmakers, headed by the Speaker, stormed the state Government House on Monday, apparently to brief Governor Adams Oshiomhole on the situation. The Speaker explained that the lawmakers were informed of the abduction by the wife of the victim, saying that no contact had been made between the abductors and the family yet.

He said the House had suspended sittings till further notice in protest of their kidnapped colleague, who they termed a vibrant member of the House. Also, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ejiroro Awahra, said the police were investigating the matter.
