Residents Of Flood-Prone Areas Advised To Relocate During The Rainy Season As NIMET Predicts Heavier Rainfall For Lagos

As the rainy season draws closer, Lagosians have been advised on precautionary measures to take to avoid losing valuables to flooding this year.

Speaking to PM News, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, had predicted heavier rainfall for Lagos this year.

“NIMET has informed us that there will be heavier rainfall in Lagos State this year but we are well prepared. We have changed the way we are now doing our roads. We have planned for eventuality. All our stakeholders are set for this year’s rainfall. Lagosians should not panic. The administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola is well prepared for the rains,” he stated.

Oke-Osanyintolu therefore advised people living in flood-prone areas to relocate during the rainy season in order to ensure lives and property are not lost to flood. He also warned that people should not dump refuse inside primary and secondary drainage channels.

Rainy seasons are always torrid times for Lagosians as many have lost their valuables to flood in the past with many more displaced by flood.

The government has taken precautionary measures by ensuring drainages are cleared, but people of the state still need to be aware of the impending danger in flood-prone area, especially as NIMET has predicted heavier rainfall in the state.
