[Opinion] The Hunger Race In Nigeria

The unlimited number of verbal language that has besieged our planet earth has made its universality to be put as relative. In history through time, a component of body language which seems more universal than verbal language was created – Hunger. The language of the body that speaks to everyone in the state of its mercy in silence. Its has no race, creed or colour, yet its influence cut across these demographic divides. It age is just as old as time;when the first sets of creature err and banished from abundance to want.

Perhaps, hunger is a body language extol in self pity, feeling of unease, starvation, dejection, rejection and other self subjective state. These feelings are horrible;these are the feelings that over half of the world population and two-third of Nigerian population has come to make their inglorious burden on daily basis. Hunger is the most commonly used term to describe the social condition of people who frequently experience the physical sensation of desiring food (Wikipedia). Those that put up that definition do not know what hunger represents in the third world nations like Nigeria,am not judging the coinage of the description but it is a far cry from what the Nigerian state of hunger represent. For them to have acknowledged anything called hunger,it goes to show the universally acclaimed status hunger has attained in human race.

With the level of hunger witnessed in Nigeria, which I have witnessed first hand through our food outreach NGO,FoodClique and experienced personally sometimes ago,it is unfortunate that the scourge which has continue to demean and isolate self esteem from human attribute is barely acknowledged within our socio-political space by individuals, corporate bodies and Government alike. The challenges to stamp-out hunger in every society is herculean but they are surmountable only if we can rally round in unison to fight it. Societies of greatness were not built on selfishness but on selfless service that is devoid of ethnic, racial and religious sentiments. Some are willing to help and advocate, but how to go about it has been the issue. Today there are countless of platform to address the scourge,FoodClique Support is an NGO that represents such platform. We sure will help you harness and evolve a strategy to help fight the menace in your own sphere of influence irrespective of how miniature the support or aid presented.

Lingering in the minds of people is the question of why food by FoodClique Support? and not other forms of assistance that would help preserve human dignity like provision of jobs or skills. If Abraham Maslov was wrong as regards other theories, he was right to have opined that the physiological need which included food was the first fundamental subconscious need in the quest for human motivation. In the society today, the only energy that drive the need to want to climb the ladder of social elevation is the availability of food, other things do not make much sense to people when they are severely hungry. We have not misplaced priority by choosing this area to tackle human needs.

To resolve this lingering crisis of hunger,FoodClique Support encourage us to come together under an auspices without recourse to race, creed, age and religious divide as hunger knows none of this, to advocate, support morally, financially and otherwise to elevate human status from the enslavement caused by hunger. Am sure if we genuinely love our neighbour we all have enough to share to a person we know is hungry. Life has made enough for all of us,it is our responsibility to share the spoil and not be consumed by greed, hate which breed social disorder…
