Nollywood actresses Funke Akindele and Genevieve Nnaji have been nominated in the Best Actress category of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Other actresses nominated in the category include Bubu Mazibuko, Nolwazi Shange and Ghanaian Jackie Appiah.

Funke Akindele was nominated for her role in Maami while Genevieve Nnaji was nominated for her role in Mirror Boy. The other three actresses were nominated for their roles in Man on Ground, Otelo Burning and Perfect Picture respectively.

"Lollywood", the Female Side to the Nigerian "Nollywood" Film Industry

As Akindele battles with Genevieve Nnaji in the Best Actress category, the nominations released on Monday reveal the talented actress has more than Genevieve to battle with in Nollywood for an award in the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, as she’s nominated in the Best Actress in a Comedy category with The Return of Jenifa, where she is competing with Lilian Esoro (Clinic Matters) and Mercy Johnson (Dumebi the Dirty Girl).

In the Best Actor in a Comedy however, Hafiz Oyetoro (House a Part) is competing with Kunle Bamtefa (Glorious Journey), Bovi Ugboma (The Bovi Ugboma Show), Francis Odega (Clinic Matters) and Ikhide Isaac (Wanna Be).

Obi Emeloye (The Mirror Boy) has Akin Omotoso (Man on Ground), Tim Green (Skeem), Sara Blecher (Otelo Burning) and Shirley Frimpong-Manso (Perfect Picture) to beat in the Best Movie Director category.

Funke Akindele’s battles won’t end in the Best Actress categories as her Return of Jenifa slugs it out with Kule Afolayan’s Phone Swap producer in the Best Movie (Comedy) category, alongside Geore Edmund’s Open Fire and others.
