The family of Corporal Arthur Ismiala of the Nigerian Army who died in active service while serving under the Quick Intervention Squad (QIS), has been compensated by the Cross River State Government with N500, 000 cash.

Ismailia, who was attached to the state’s QIS, died October 11, 2012 in a shootout operation with hoodlums in the state.

The State Security Adviser, Mr Rekpene Bassey while presenting the cash to the family of the deceased soldier represented by his sister, Mrs Helen Ismaila in his office, said the government was touched by the death of the military personnel who put in his best to fight criminals in the state, and sadly his death was the first to be recorded since the joint security outfit was raised in April 2012.

“We know this development might have brought some pains to the bereaved family; no amount of compensation can equate his life.

“I condole with your family on behalf of Governor Liyel Imoke. We hope that the N500, 000 will help to assuage the difficulty you went through as a result of his death,” Bassey said.

Receiving the money, sister of the deceased, who resides in Kano, said the family initially found it difficult to believe that their son was dead.

She commended the Cross River State Government for the gesture, stressing that the money would be used to cater for the wife and the expectant child.
