£7m Demba Ba enjoyed a memorable debut for Chelsea by scoring a brace as the FA Cup holders came from behind to hammer Southampton 5-1 in their third round tie at St Mary’s Stadium.

The Blues appeared to be in danger of losing their grip on the trophy when Jay Rodriguez fired Saints ahead in the 22nd minute but Ba and Victor Moses restored some pride to the visitor’s side as they went 2-1 up at half-time.

Ba found the back of the net in the 35th and 61st minute respectively and then went close to completing a hat-trick but his header from Moses’ cross was well saved by Boruc with his feet.

Ivanovic converted a superb Mata cross in the 52nd to add his name on the scorer’s sheet before veteran midfielder, Lampard, completed the routing of Southampton with seven minutes remaining when he stepped up to convert a spot-kick to equal Bobby Tambling’s record of 25 FA Cup goals for the club.
