cows-300x225At least 450 persons were said to have been displaced following the violence that erupted between Fulani herdsmen and the people of Amla community in Otukpo-Icho, Otukpo Local Council Area of Benue State last weekend.

Also, over 100 cows belonging to the Fulani herdsmen resident in the area were alleged to be missing in the wake of the crisis, just as many members of the host community have fled the area in fear of reprisal attack by the herdsmen.

The Chairman of Otukpo Local Council Area, Dr. Innocent Onuh, who disclosed this yesterday while leading members of his council and journalists to donate relief materials to the affected victims’ camp in Otukpo Town, described the crisis as unfortunate and vowed that the council would do everything in its power to bring the perpetrators to book.

The Local Council Chairman however appealed for calm between the Fulani and the host communities, stressing that government would do everything possible to ensure normalcy in the area and their welfare. Some of the relief materials donated to the victims included bags of guinea-corn, maize, rice, mats, blankets, mattresses and sachets of pure water.
