Minted Controversy: N2.1bn Disappears Into Thin Air At Nigeria’s Minting Company

Chief Executive Of NSPMC, Ehi Okomoyon

The Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company, NSPMC, is currently embroiled in a scandal that has seen about N2.1 Billion in N1000 denominations vanish from right under its nose.

This has necessitated the board of the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company which is headed by CBN governor, malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to meet, with a view to try and unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of such huge amount of money.

To signal its seriousness, the chief executive of  NSPMC, Ehi Okomoyon, has been  ordered to proceed on indefinite leave while one Ahmed Bamali has been appointed in acting capacity.

In the same vein, the head of security at the NSPMC, Emmanuel Bala, has also been asked to proceed on leave.

The absence of Close Circuit Television Cameras known as CCTV at such a highly sensitive establishment, has been attributed to the ease with which the funds were siphoned undetected.
