Unknown Gunmen Kill Two Policemen In Bayelsa

Unidentified gunmen riding in a black Sport Utility Vehicle shot at three policemen, killing two of them and injuring one on Wednesday at about 9p.m. in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

The injured policeman was quickly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, where he receiving treatment.

An eye-witness say the incident occurred at Azikoro-Agbura Road in Azikoro suburb of Yenegoa when the policemen saw the reckless manner the driver of the SUV was driving and decided to stop them. Instead of stopping, they opened fire at the cops.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Fidelis Odunna (DSP) said the gunmen were armed robbers who were on a robbery mission and sighted the policemen who were at their duty post and opened fire on them.

Odunna said the police are on the trail of the robbers and are doing everything in their power to track them down.
