Roots Odutola, Joshua Samuel & Isoken Ogiemwonyi Clinch Top Prizes At The 2012 MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week Awards


The 2012 MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week has officially ended but the thrills and glitz of the event that brought some of Africa’s top creative designers together to deliver the best of fashion to all with their new collections.

Here are the winners of the MTN LFDW Young Designer of the Year, Model of the Year and Young Creative Entrepreneur being presented with their prizes.

MTN LFDW Model of the Year – Roots Odutola
As hard as it is strutting the runway during fashion week presentations, this law student defied all odds and came top. Last year, Jenevieve Aken was crowned the MTN LFDW Model of the Year, this year, law student Roots Odutola clinched the coveted title of the runway queen and was awarded a cheque of N 1 Million (N1,000,000).

MTN LFDW Young Designer of the Year – Joshua Samuel of Josh
At this year’s MTN LFDW, lots of emerging Nigerian fashion brands were present to showcase their new fashion pieces as well as vie for the prize of the Young Designer of the Year. After a rigorous screening exercise, Joshua Samuel emerged winner. The design label was awarded a cheque of N 4 Million (N 4,000,000) and 3 Months free rack space at Grey Velvet and L’Espace.

1st Runner-Up: House of Silk
2nd Runner-Up: Orange Culture
3rd Runner-Up: Meena

MTN LFDW Young Creative Entrepreneur of the Year
Isoken Ogiemwonyi, a creative director of Nigerian contemporary fashion label Obsidian and co-founder of retail brands, Le Petit Marche (a monthly shopping event in Lagos, Nigeria) and L’Espace (independent fashion and lifestyle concept store) was awarded a cheque of N 2 Million (N 2,000,000) and a tour of London Fashion Week courtesy British Council at the award presentation as the 2012 MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week/British Council Young Creative Entrepreneur of the Year.
