Ogun PDP Rolls Out Red Carpet For Obasanjo As Johnson-Sirleaf, Boni Yayi, Indicate Interest

Presidents of Liberia, Hellen Johnson- Sirleaf and her Beninoise counterpart, Boni Yayi, are among African leaders billed to honour former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the “welcome home” party being organized by the Ogun State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former President of Ghana, John Kuffuor, is also billed to attend the event as guest speaker where he will deliver a speech on the topic, “Obasanjo in the eyes of history.”

Senator Dipo Odujirin, state chairman of the PDP, gave this hint yesterday during a press briefing held at the party’s secretariat on IBB Boulevard, Abeokuta, the state capital to mark the state executive committee’s 100 days in office.

Odujinrin said PDP in other South-West states have also indicated interest to be part of the event.

It would be recalled that Chief Obasanjo voluntarily resigned his position as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of PDP in April this year and his coming ‘home’ was without fanfare.

But seven months after, the drums are to be rolled out to celebrate the elder stateman. Justifying the party’s decision to throw a ‘welcome party’ after seven months of Obasanjo’s resignation, Odujinrin attributed this to the absence of a valid state executive of the party.

He also said that the state chapter of the party has deemed it fit to celebrate the former president who is also an African leader of repute, to formally welcome him back to the state.

Odujinrin said the party had, about two months ago, set up a committee to organise a befitting reception for the former president.
