Facebook Lover Arraigned On 3-Count Charge In Lagos Magistrates Court

The 26-year-old man, who allegedly pushed down his Facebook lover from a multi-storey building after a disagreement ensued over sex, was arraigned in a Lagos court on Friday.

A Part Of The Building From Which Nkiruka Akabuogu Was Allegedly Thrown From

The accused,  Arthur Obiora, is facing a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted rape and attempt to cause bodily harm at the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard from ASP A. C. Orji, the prosecuting officer, how Obiora met Nkiruka Akabuogu on Facebook and invited her to a club house in Apapa where they had drinks. The prosecutor said the pair later moved to Obiora’s house at Block 10, Flat 317, 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Orji said Obiora, who claimed to be an unemployed graduate of Igbinedion University Okada and the Centennial College, Ontario, Canada, shut all the doors in the apartment and demanded to have sex with Akabuogu.

“This was after he had smoked some wraps of Indian hemp. He tried to rape her and threatened to kill her with a bottle of beer. The girl, fearing for her life, then jumped down from the third floor of the high/rise building,” Orji said.

The prosecutor said that the incident happened at about 3a.m. on Oct. 31.

“The girl was discovered lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood about 30 minutes later by the security men in the premises who then reported it to the police.

“The police took the girl to a hospital and after she regained consciousness, obtained her statement,” Orji said.

“This case highlights one of the major problems of the social media. The young lady went to visit someone she doesn’t know. She met the defendant on Facebook and they had been chatting until Oct. 30,” he said.

Orji pointed out that the offences contravened Sections 56 (A), 260 and 404 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011.

The magistrate, Mr Martins Owumi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

  1. Why blame everything on economy? What happens to our moral and value system? A well brought up lady, no matter the state of the economy will not follow a guy she knows little or nothing about to a club not to talk of his house!

  2. It will continue to happen this way until we are very much familiar with all these newly introduced social media. Well let the law decide if what she alleged were true or false. Even if he smoked ganger and then asked for sex is it a crime. These allegation may have been formulated against him anyway, though I am not supporting Arthur Obiora.
Meanwhile the lady may have sexually harassed Arthur Obiora either on phone, FB, or ever in his house via her attire. So the the law decide.

  3. The owner of facebook is busy making money from every visit you make to any facebook page, you are using facebook to endanger your life. What a pity!

Facebook is the easiest place for those ritualist to get ladies for any purpose because most of them don’t apply wisdom.

I met my fiancee on facebook but she told her Mum when we were planning to meet. We agreed to meet at Mr. biggs close to their house and we spent less than one hour to chat and eat because her Mum gave her just one hour. That was the first and last time we saw each other before her Mum personally invited me to their house about a month after. The day I went to their house to honour her Mum’s invitation was the day I took her to our own house to meet my parents. She didn’t leave our sitting for any other room and she didn’t stay for more than 45 minutes before she went back to their house. After about 3 months, she came to my own 2 bedroom flat to spend two days with me. We have been together for 17 months and she has been coming to my house on monthly basis, even she spent the whole of last week in my house but we’ve never had sexual intercourse for once because she’s a virgin. We are having our wedding by the special grace of Almighty God in 2013. God has really helped us in our relationship because we knew that we can’t do it alone and that was why we invited God into our relationship right from the day we started chatting on facebook. We actually agreed to go for 3 days fasting and prayer before we eventually decided to meet for the first time.

Therefore, it is not a crime for a lady to meet her fiance on social network like facebook but it is very dangerous if it is not properly handled with care and caution.
