Council Chairman Die In Auto Crash

The Interim Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mrs. Opeyemi Adefarati is dead.

She died in an auto crash along with some other passengers at Iwaro Oka junction, along the Akungba-Akoko/Abuja road.

An eyewitness said, “It was a horrible sight to behold on Thursday night when a trailer rammed into a number of vehicles, and instantly killing all the occupants of the vehicles at the Iwaro Oka junction”.

According to reports, prominent among the victims was Mrs. Adefarati, who was said to have been killed in the accident, which occurred barely three kilometers to her residence.

She was said to be returning from Akure, the state capital, where she went to attend a political meeting.

Until her death, Mrs. Adefarati was a prominent grassroot politician and an advocate of women emancipation in the area. She has been active politically in the last 10 years, and was said to have taken very active part during the last governorship election in the state.

Her interest in politics started when she joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the local government. She would later join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where she defeated the incumbent then Hon. Abiodun Jerome in the primary election of House of Assembly for Akoko South West Constituency 1 in 2007. She, however, lost the general election to the present Deputy Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon.Dare Emiola.

Late Adefarati later defected to Labour Party (LP) and again contested the primary election, which she lost again.

Ironically, the late Adefarati was said to have used her office to regulate the use of the road by trailers and other heavy duty vehicles.
