Few days ago, news of a Fela Kuti Twitter acoount verification was everywhere, and people’s respect for the late Afrobeat icon quadrupled as many living artists are not even verified. A representative for the Kuti family however says the family doesn’t know about the account.
Speaking to reporters, Yeni Kuti said she is totally unaware of the existence of the account.
“I’m not on Twitter, I don’t know who runs the account. I’ll run this by my people, this shouldn’t be legal. I’ll have to get back to you”, she said.
Reports say independent US label Knitting Factory Records (KFR) runs the account. The label is responsible for re-releasing Fela’s catalog controlled by top gun label Universal Music.
The twitter account(with the handle, @felakuti) was opened in October 2009 and was recently verified.
