American Ambassador, 3 Other Consul Officials Killed in Libya over Alleged Anti-Islamic Film

The American ambassador to Libya Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other officials of the American Consulate in Libya were killed when a mob attacked the consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi to protest a film deemed offensive to Islam, an official said Wednesday.

According to Wanis al-Sharif, the Libyan deputy minister of the interior, “The ambassador was killed along with three other officials.”

Meanwhile, the killings were also confirmed in a tweet by Mustafa Abu Shagur, the deputy prime minister. In his words, “I condemn these barbaric acts in the strongest possible terms. This is an attack on America, Libya and free people everywhere,” Shagur said in another tweet.

Ambassador Stevens, a career officer with the US Foreign Service, had been in Libya for less than four months after taking up his post in the capital Tripoli in May. The envoy died when the consulate was attacked on Tuesday by an armed mob protesting against the film, which, according to the Wall Street Journal, was made by an Israeli-American who describes Islam as a “cancer” and depicts the Prophet Mohammed sleeping with women.

  1. What else could one say; THESE ARE BARBARIC ACTS, and an attack against America.” We need peace and to achieve peace, we need to be tolerant. The world needs peace and the backlash is that of a Country that has gone down into serious chaos.

  2. Christians and jews are d ones frustrating world peace, when v u seen a muslim saying something negative about christians, instead u ppl went 2 d extent of making a film. Is dis d way of ur JESUS

  3. Lol, this a very funny scenerio. Y kill innocent soul because of a film. God doesn’t need d help of any man to avenge on his behalf. So y stressing n flexing thr muscles unneccesarily. Nigerians should please be religion tolerant and stop attacking eachoda online cuz of religion. We re one take it or keep struggling to fight with that fact.
