Abuja-Lokoja Highway Closed

The major link road between the North and the South has been closed by the Federal Road Safety Corps Commission, FRSC. The Abuja-Lokoja road has is the choice road for most commuters travelling along that axis. Now, they will have to look for alternative routes.

The FRSC, in a press release by Garuba Mohammed, Sector Commander for Kogi State announced the closure of the Lokoja-Abuja highway on Sunday saying the decision was taken to ensure the safety of road users.

According to Mohammed, the decision to close the road followed continued rise in the water level at the Banda Village, two kilometres to Lokoja, which he said has made movement of vehicles on the road completely impossible. The water level rose last week and covered the link bridge on the route making it impossible for vehicles to pass through.

Mr. Mohammed said the road would remain closed until the commission could guarantee safe movement of vehicles.

Youths around the area have been very helpful to commuters, going as far as backing some people across the totally flooded road.
