Police AIG Warns Police Officers against Harassing Journalists

New Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Zone 12 command of the Nigerian Police Force, comprising Bauchi, Borno and Yobe states, Mr Ibrahim Abdu, has warned police officers in the zone against any form of harassment of journalists and innocent Nigerians. The AIG made it clear that discipline is one of his agenda while in the zone.

Abdu made this known while addressing his maiden press briefing at the weekend; he also stated that police brutality of innocent citizens had given the force bad reputation among Nigerians, saying that there was the need for the police and the community to work together.

In his words: “Only when the community and the police can truly work together for their common good will citizens feel that they can trust the police… police community relations committee will be restored in the zone with the aim of bettering the public image of the police, as well as perpetuate its growth.”

The AIG assumed duty in the zone last Thursday, and, in line with the reform agenda of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar, his tenure in Zone 12 would focus attention on restoring the image of the force, zero-tolerance for corruption, professionalism, community policing and general cleanliness of police personnel and barracks.
