Politicians Created Boko Haram Crisis, Only Politicians Can Solve it —Alhaji Alhaji

One-time minister of finance and Nigeria’s high commissioner to Britain under the military presidency of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida,  Alhaji Alhaji yesterday said that the Boko Haram crisis was created by political intrigues in the country and can only be solved by politicians.

Alhaji Alhaji, the current Sardauna of Sokoto, spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY during the graduation ceremony of his grandson,  Master Ibrahim Aminu, at the An_Noor Islamic Center , Gwarinpa-Abuja.

When asked why notable northern leaders like him have refused to condemn or applaud Boko Haram’s activities in the north, Alhaji’s answer was that Boko Haram was borne out of political inter-play in the country. He said that Boko Haram is a child of politics and can only be solved by the politicians.

He said that he is a technocrat and not a politician and, therefore, expected the political class to proffer solutions to the problem they have visited on the nation.

The former finance minister added that the attempt to shove aside the old brigade or even  seek their advice before embarking on some political voyages as well led to the current political problems in the country.

‘’A former British  parliamentarian in the 17th century said the world is ever building on old stones and removing them. Sooner or later we would realize that it is good to take advice from those who have seen the past,’’ he stated.

When asked of his message to the Boko Haram adherents, Alhaji Alhaji said, ‘’I am not quite sure I know what Boko Haram is, because those who profess to be Boko Haram are the same people benefitting from Boko (book).

‘’I believe that you cannot ignore modern science, modern knowledge and modern technology. If it is true that Boko Haram exists, then they must have been misguided.”

Meanwhile, Alhaji Alhaji has applauded  President Goodluck Jonathan’s nomination of Justice Mariam Aloma-Muktar to the Senate  as the next chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) when  Justice Dahiru Musdapher retires from the seat on July 15.

‘’I am very glad for her nomination by President Jonathan for the CJN job. If you ask her, she would tell you that she was in my university in the UK studying law. And I am glad too to see somebody who studied in my university now becoming the CJN.”

The proprietress of the school, Mrs Majida Abdulrashid Owoduni, said she decided to set up the school in 1999 out of her love for children and furtherance of the knowledge in Islam.

“My aim was to bring up children with correct and sound knowledge of Islam, not the one that has been misunderstood, misinterpreted or misrepresented. It is meant to lay granite foundation for true and correct knowledge of Islam in those children,” Owoduni said.

Other pupils of notable personalities who successfully completed both Islamic study and primary school levels are Asra Abubakar Jafar, Ibn Abdulrahaman Sayyid, Medina Mohammed, Rabiya Tunawu, Hafsat Ibrahim, Amina  Bukar, Rahmat Jalo, Maria Ibrahim, Hauwa Haliru, Yusrah Saidu and Ismail Mustapha.

  1. As far as my research about insecurity in Nigeria is concerned nothing like boko haram but is PDP distraction and disstabilization to ruin the economy of Nigeria to zero level. The best security for a nation like Nigeria is not physical combatance but social and food security. Just try it with sincerity of purpose and see what it will yield in less than half year. Stop social injustice and corruption to save Nigeria before it completely collapse. May God save, help and bless Nigeria and her helpless citizenries. Amen!
