Kwara CAN Urges Churches To Dedicate Tomorrow’s Service To Victims, Nation

THE Kwara State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged churches nationwide to dedicate tomorrow’s service to the victims of last Sunday’s Dana air crash, their families and the nation at large.

It urged officiating ministers at the churches, irrespective of their denomination, to pray for the beloved of the victims, pray for the safety of the nation’s air space and “cry to God” to put an end to evil in the land.

In a statement yesterday in Ilorin, the chapter’s Secretary, Rev. Zacchaeus Fawenu said: “CAN in Kwara State mournfully condoles Nigerians and particularly the families of Nigerians and foreigners who died in the ill-fated Dana aircraft last Sunday. These are indeed trying times for the nation. We call on the federal Government to go beyond cosmetic probe to clean the rot in the aviation industry and other sectors of our national life.”

Fawenu who that too much blood of Nigerians has been unnecessarily spilled, warned that God would not continually pardon the nation over the “high magnitude of the crime.”

He urged President Goodluck Jonathan to hold firm his belief in God, predicting an imminent end to evil in the country as “God would never allow the rod of the wicked to rest against the lot of the righteous ones.”

He added: “All the good people in Nigeria should unite against our common enemies at present. Let us come together, cry to God and clean our land of the evil that will do us all no good. I have never seen evil forces triumphing over the good forces. The present development would very soon become history.”

Meanwhile, investigation carried out by showed that patronage at the Ilorin International Airport has dropped by about 50 per cent since the crash.
