ONDO State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanisi, leaders and members of the Labour Party (LP) in Ondo North Senatorial District which comprises Akoko North East, Akoko North West, Akoko South East, Akoko South West, Owo and Ose have endorsed the second term bid of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
The decision was hinged on what they described as the “unparalleled performance and outstanding achievements of Governor Mimiko” since he assumed office over three years ago.
In a communiqué issued after the party leaders and followers met yesterday, the party members said: “Mr Governor has succeeded in re-inventing governance by bridging the age-long gap between government and the governed through his people-oriented and caring heart programmes and projects.”
Specifically, the communique mentioned the government’s achievements in education, agriculture, health and urban renewal sectors as some of the reasons they decided to support Mimiko for a second term.
In the field of agriculture, the communiqué said Mimiko has re-invented farming through the establishment of agro-business cities, provided decent accommodation, modern farming equipment, and seed money for credit facilities for employed youths at Ore in the North Senatorial District. It added that the moribund farm settlements at Isuada, Ile-Oluji and Ode-Aye are being resuscitated.
“In the health sector, Iroko has revolutionized health care delivery to the extent that Ondo State which used to record the highest infant and maternal mortality rate in the South West, has suddenly become a benchmark in safe motherhood through the Abiye programme in Africa.
“In the field of education, Dr Mimiko has transformed the sector through the establishment of Mega Schools which has bridged the gap between the rich and the downtrodden,” the communiqué added.
Equally commendable, they further said, is the introduction of quality education through the establishment of Quality Assurance Agency, stressing that it is “heart-warming that with these revolutionary measures, Ondo State students have continued to win many laurels including the best student award in the 2011 West African School Certificate Examination.”
Still giving reasons for the decision to throw their weight behind Mimiko’s second term bid, the Ondo North Senatorial members said they are impressed by Mimiko’s Urban Renewal Revolution.
“Mimiko succeeded in taking our mothers and market women from the scotching sun, rain and weather hazards and unhygienic environment to markets equipped with modern day neighbourhood markets in most of our urban centres like Akure, Owo, Ikare Oka, Igbokoda among others,” they said.
Those who signed the communiqué included the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, Alhaji A .A Momoh representing Akoko Northwest, Chief M.B Babalola, (Akoko North East); Chief Ado (Akoko Southwest); Adesegunnota (Akoko South East); Omotayo Akinrogbe, Ogunlusi and Awonogun.
