Boko Haram Leaders Attain Terrorist Status in the US

Leaders of the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram have been labeled “Terrorists” by the US state department. Those concerned are: Abubakar Shekau, who is believed to lead the militant group, Abubakar Adam Kambar, and Khalid el Barnawi.

There have been speculations within the past week about this eventuality, especially following the fresh attacks on churches in two Northern states of Kaduna and Yobe. The Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The sect has claimed responsibility for several attacks in the country since 2009, and 2012 alone, over six hundred (600) lives have been lost as a result of their activities.

These leaders of this Islamic group are believed to have ties with al-Qaeda, another Islamic group that have already been recognized as a terrorist group by the United State. What impact will this development have on the leadership of the country (Nigeria) who appear to be clueless on how to tackle the Boko Haram.
