Rep Tells Lagos To Pay Striking Doctors

A MEMBER of the House of Representatives, Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa, has called on the Lagos State Government to comply with the demands of the doctors in its hospitals.

Olaifa, a former chairman of Lagos Medical Guild, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja, averred that the government was not fair to the striking doctors, insisting that their demands are legitimate and fair.

He stated that the Medical Advisory Council led by Dr. Ore Falomo was misleading the state government and called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to disregard the council and pay the medical personnel the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure which he said was their entitlement.

The lawmaker, who represents Oluyole Federal Constituency of Oyo State on the platform of Accord Party (AP), described as lies, claims by the Lagos State government that it was paying consultants in its hospitals over N801, 000 monthly as salaries.

According to him, consultants in the state earn about N400, 000, noting that the government by its attitude has shown that it does not care about the welfare of its medical personnel.
