JTF Raises Alarm On Extortionist Text Messages

THE Military Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State has alerted the public of the existence of extortionists who issue threatening text messages to individuals to pay unspecified amount of money into certain account numbers.

The messages, according to the JTF, do not only threaten people’s lives and property, but are also new means of perpetrating terrorism in Nigeria.

The JTF alert was contained in press statement signed by its spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, and made available to The Guardian yesterday in Maiduguri.

Musa described the threatening messages as an unfortunate development that should be dealt with decisively to protect people’s lives and property.

The statement read in part: “We request that such messages be forwarded to the JTF headquarters, with telephone hotlines -08064174066, 07085464012 and 08154429346.

“The task force also wishes to remind the

public that security is a collective responsibility and any credible information passed to JTF will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
