AKWA Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio yesterday said there is no gang up by the Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against President Goodluck Jonathan over who becomes the chairman of the party.
Akpabio said “I don’t believe that any governor would do that. To gang up against the president? PDP is a democratic party and as far as I am concerned, the president is the leader of the party, so there is no way we the follower can gang up against our leader. The president is our leader and we go with our leader. And as far as I am concerned, there is no issue because the president will like to see a democratic process emerge and as far as PDP is concerned, the PDP recognizes his leadership.”
Akpabio also explained the essence of the elaborate burial ceremony for the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, saying that his death and burial were a unifying factor and source of unity for Nigeria
“What happened in the then Republic of Biafra affected the entire nation. People across board died; it wasn’t that the Igbo alone lost their lives and so Ojukwu symbolized something. The struggle he attempted was a struggle to assert self independence as a result of what he termed marginalization. So if we don’t celebrate such a person and what he stood for then automatically, we are trying to forget history.”, he added.
