As Whitney Houston goes Home – Her Music lives on.

On the Saturday that Whitney Houston died, I was out most of day running errands and had no time to check my social media on my BB. Back home, I opened up my laptop, and what were all my Facebook friends talking about? A lot were posting songs by her, and then I saw one that said RIP, Whitney Houston. What?! Yes, it was true. She had passed away that evening at her hotel. She was just 48.

Nonplussed does not describe how I felt then. I didn’t burst into tears like I did when I heard that Micheal Jackson died, but I was close. I know she had her problems, but she had always been one of my favorites, and I was looking forward to the day I would go see her sing in concert. It was terrible to realize that another huge talent was gone. I prayed that she had found the peace that eluded her on earth.

A few days ago, I was blown away as I watched the latest episode of Glee online and saw the rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” by Amber Riley’s character, Mercedes. Mercedes is in a love triangle and sang the song in this scene with one of the guys that liked her. I watched the full show on the FOX website but the clip is also on Youtube.

You see, when I finished watching the show, I had to go on Youtube to see if I could find the clip, I wanted to watch and listen to it over and over. Goosebumps just washed over me and the tears that didn’t come on Saturday finally escaped. Amber Riley really did the song justice, and her performance is a great tribute to Whitney Houston.

Funny, I read from the Youtube comments that the Glee producers didn’t even plan this as a tribute. The episode had already been taped earlier and fixed for Valentine’s Day, and it just so happened that Whitney Houston died last weekend. This certainly shows how one will always live on through their talent.

For me as an author of romance novels, Whitney’s soul will never die because one of her songs or the other will always be playlist while writing my stories.

I don’t know where broken hearts go, Whitney, but I hope you find your way Home. Adieu.

I will always love you.

  1. Yes, Whitney ‘is’ an IRREPLACEABLE, and one-a-kind gem. There was none & can never be one like her. Its a pity she had to go on so soon, but she will ALWAYS live on!!
And i really love your end to this article, with one of my best favs of her songs: “I dont know where broken hearts go, Whitney, but i hope you find your way home.”
