Movie Producer sues Virgin Atlantic for N1Billion over copyright violation of Dagrin’s “Ghetto Dreamz”

Mr. Ope Banwo, the MD and CEO of Stingomania has sued Virgin Atlantic Airlines to the sum of one billion naira over violating of the company’s rights to ‘Ghetto Dreamz’.

Ghetto Dreamz was produced to celebrate the life and times of Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly called Dagrin. Stigomania holds the Copyrights to the movie.

The MD and CEO of Stingomania alleged that the full length of the movie was played on over 71 international routes of the airline, the video content and soundtracks were also played in their office, they uploaded a trailer and exhibited a poster of the movie on two of Virgin Atlantic’s websites.

He also added that the contents of the movie and particulars were published in their inflight magazines circulated across all routes, travel agencies and inflight.

The Stingomania boss sued for N1 billion as compensation, N5 million as the cost of prosecution.

He also requested for the court to mandate Virgin Atlantic to publish apologies in three national newspapers, on their websites and in their inflight magazine.

Justice Adah of the Federal High Court sitting at the Ikeja Judicial Division, Alausa, Lagos, this morning granted an exparte order restraining the Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd from infringing or continuing to infringe the copyright of ‘Ghetto Dreamz’.
