Gunmen attack Ajaokuta, kill six, raze police post, bank

Idris-Wada-pledgeGUNMEN, suspected to be members of the Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram, on Friday struck in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, killing four persons.

A police station and a first generation bank were also burnt by the group.

It was also learnt that two fire fighters were also killed by the attackers who opened fire at the team which was trying trying to salvage the police station.

The incident thus paralysed economic activities in Ajaokuta as it reportedly occurred in the morning when business concerns were to open for the day.

Offices, banks and shops were eventually not opened, while school children who reported in their various schools were turned back.

There is yet no official response from the police or government officials on the attack.

Reports however have it that the fundamentalist group has killed over 900 people since it launched offensive, with the deadliest being that of 20 January 20, 2012 in Kano, which claimed over 185 lives.
