Water scarcity hits Abeokuta

Residents of the Ogun state capital Abeokuta are facing acute water shortages attributed to the staff of the Ogun water board not functioning due to the stike action embarked upon by the labour unions.

The strike action was suspended yesterday.

Most residents have resorted to using sachet water popularly known as pure water to carryout household chores such as cooking, bathing and other domestic activities.

Residents have appealed to the state government to come to their aid

The cost of a bag of pure water in Ogun has more than doubled, selling for around N130 as against the pre subsidy removal price or N60.

People who can’t afford sachet water make use of stream water, despite its consequences.

“If they continue like this, may have to break into the dams and water works ourselves”, a resident was quoted.
