Scholarships Offered To High Performing Students

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria has offered scholarships to three female students that scored high grades in the 2011/2012 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.

The beneficiaries included Uzegbu Elizabeth who scored 326 points, Omotuyi Ajoke, 315 andOwolabi Cynthia who got 314 points.

Uzegbu had applied to the University of Ibadan to study Electrical/Electronics engineering; Omotuyiapplied to the University of Lagos to study Systems engineering while Owolabi wished to study Electrical/Electronic engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The outgoing President of APWEN, Mrs. Iniobong Usoro who stated this during the 2011 Annual General Meeting in Abuja, added that the awards were meant to encourage the girls and motivate others to take their studies seriously.

She said APWEN donated mathematics learning sets to Girls Secondary School, Abaji and Junior Secondary School, Durumi, Abuja to be used as ‘mathematics laboratory’, adding that the initiative would be sustained and extended to schools nationwide.

Usoro further said the association had offered to pay the tuition for three students in selected schools in the Federal Capital Territory while the best graduating female engineering student in a chosen university would be honoured.

She lauded APWEN members for the impact they were making and tasked them to continue to uphold professionalism and excellence in their field.

The AGM witnessed the presentation of awards to various APWEN members, non-members and institutions as well as the swearing-in of a new APWEN executive headed by Olayinka Abdul, the erstwhile vice-president of the association.
