I’ll End Power Failure – Jonathan

The President, yesterday said he was mindful of the importance of steady power supply in Nigeria and gave the reassurance to Nigerians that his administration would attain constant power supply before its end in 2015. He said “We all know the importance of power. We look forward to a time when Nigerians can enjoy uninterrupted power supply from the beginning to the end of a year and we are working hard to ensure that, that objective is attained within the life-span of this administration”.

The President said this during an audience with members of the Board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company led by Vice President Namadi Sambo. The Niger Delta Power Holding Company was from its inception, tasked with the implementation of National Integrated Power Projects, NIPP which is funded by the three-tiers of government.

Mr Namadi in turn vocalized the commitment of the board to see to it that they carry out their mandate on time, he assured President Jonathan that it will deliver all gas-fired NIPP power generating stations, as well as associated transmission projects on schedule to ensure that the Jonathan administration’s promise of steady power supply is fulfilled.

Also in attendance were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Governors of Benue, Delta and Ekiti states, as well as the Ministers of Power, Petroleum, and Justice were present at the meeting.

  1. The contract between PHCN and nigerians is 24 hours for 30 days of uninterrupted power supply, accordingly PHCN charges as much but hardly suppliy, in piece-meal, 240 hours of grossly epileptic power in the whole 30 days. What we need is the new pre-paid metre made available and affordable so that we may pay as we consume. All other things may come later.
