At least 16 people have been killed in an attack on a predominantly Christian village in northern Nigeria.
Police said late on Friday that unidentified assailants had also burnt a number of houses in the village in Bauchi state, near Tafawa Balewa.
Bauchi is in Nigeria’s middle belt, where the predominantly Muslim north meets the mainly Christian south.
There are long-standing tensions in the area rooted in power struggles and land disputes, correspondents say.
This has caused violence in the past between indigenous Christian or animist groups, and Muslim settlers from the North.
Hundreds have died in clashes in Nigeria following national elections last month in which Goodluck Jonathan, a southern Christian, won the presidential poll against a Muslim, Muhammadu Buhari.
The worst of the violence was in Bauchi and Kaduna states.

Killings in Nigeria espcially, the orthern side of the nation has become a the order of the day. Gradually, the killings carried out by muslims will not be tolerated by the christians again and this could lead to exchange of attacks. Why are these people too violent because of religion and their myopic ingnorance. May the sword of God continue to pursue the power behind all these dastard killings in Jesus name.
My prayer is that God will give d muslims d understanding required to treat issues in a more matured way…not with violence!
The killings by these Northerners does not have any Islamical back up. They’re just wicked as a being. Take for example, if it comes to an ethnic differences; an Hausa man will never hesitate to kill his so called ‘best friend’ who happens to come frm the Ethnic group they have dispute with. How many times have you heard of either Religious or Ethnic conflict in the Southern part of Nigeria? This shows that the Northerners, both the Christians & the Muslims, have a big personality problem. Look at the recent Post-election violence that claimed several innocent Youth corp members’ life, these innocent youths are both Muslims & Christians.
When is this going to stop in our dear country nigeria? Majority of this nothern people had turned hope of innocent to hopeless. This is high time for us to stand up and fight for these innocent ones whom are suffering and killing for nothing… Nigerians think.
My follow Nigerians what in God’s name will l say? All l have to say is that those in involved in this killings have no conscious because they have sold their souls to the devil and have become his instrument for carrying out his will. With such set of people its not the issue of religion or ethnicity that motivates them but are ginger by any slightest opportunity that arise to carrying out the duties of their father devil who is the father of all murderers. l for one dont count them as muslims because if so they are a disgrace to the lslamic world. lts a pity that our government allows such wicked souls to get away uncaught…..

God hate shedding of innocent blood and God will never fold arms and just be watching without judgement but when the judgement comes many innocents may share from it. I pray that those with black big heart of devil will one day stop all these nonsense.
